In collaboration with TUI, the project and its partners are thrilled to introduce the initiative: \u201c<strong>Tourism Cares: Unite for a Cleaner Cyprus\u201d<\/strong>. With more than<strong> 50 registered cleanup events <\/strong>already confirmed, this campaign is mobilizing tourism businesses across Cyprus to take action against plastic pollution and littering, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability within the tourism sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we approach<strong> World Tourism Day on September 27, 2024, <\/strong>the tourism community of Cyprus has shown impressive engagement, signaling that the island\u2019s tourism industry is not only thriving but also deeply invested in creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tourism Cares: Unite for a Cleaner Cyprus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative calls on hotels, resorts, restaurants, and other tourism businesses to organize beach or public area cleanups, involving both their guests and staff, to reduce litter and raise awareness about the importance of sustainability in tourism. With the growing awareness of environmental challenges, this large-scale cleanup aims to inspire lasting change by reducing the impact of littering on our beautiful coastal areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Event Highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More than<strong> 50 registered cleanup events <\/strong>across Cyprus, involving hundreds of participants from the tourism sector and beyond.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Co-organized by <strong>TUI, TUI Care Foundation and CSTI<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Active participation and <strong>under the auspices of <\/strong>the<strong> Deputy Ministry of Tourism<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Endorsed by the Commissioner for the Environment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fully supported by key tourism organizations, including <strong>the Cyprus Hotel Association (PASYXE), the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprises (STEK), the Cyprus Hotel Managers Association (PASYDIXE), the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents (ACTA), <\/strong>and other tourism stakeholders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to Participate: <\/strong>Tourism businesses interested in joining the initiative can still register their cleanup events <strong>by September 18<\/strong>, 2024 here: <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/eVeD42JjbAhFkK429\">https:\/\/forms.gle\/eVeD42JjbAhFkK429<\/a><strong><br><br><\/strong>For those who would like to join an existing cleanup, a full list of registered cleanup campaigns can be found here:<strong> Available Clean up Campaigns:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/HNdkfLdPDrozJvdW6\"><strong>https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/HNdkfLdPDrozJvdW6<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are overwhelmed by the tremendous response from the tourism industry in Cyprus and as Philippos Drousiotis, Chairman of the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) said \u201cThis initiative is more than just a cleanup; it\u2019s about creating awareness and fostering long-term sustainable practices within the tourism sector. It\u2019s heartening to see such a high level of engagement\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, let\u2019s make Cyprus a beacon of sustainable tourism by working hand in hand for a cleaner, plastic free environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Destination Zero Waste Cyprus is a part of TUI Care Foundation\u2019s global Destination Zero Waste programme, which inspires new ways to reduce and reuse waste in tourism destinations that create jobs and promote a circular economy.
