An event was held on 1 June 2022 to celebrate the “Keep our Sand and Sea Plastic Free” project… and also to announce the continuation of the Project for the next 3 years (until May 2025), with an extension to Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos.
In attendance were the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Savvas Perdios, along with Mayor of Paralimni Theodoros Pyrillis, and many other key local stakeholders. The Travel Foundation’s Director of Global Programmes, Elke Dens, addressed the audience, and Project Coordinator Panagiota Koutsofta presented the final results of the project.
As well as significant changes in how hotels procure and consume single-use plastics, the project included development of two “plastic-free” beaches, at Ayia Triada and Malama beach.
The extension of the project will be spearheaded by CSTI and funded by the TUI Care Foundation, with the Travel Foundation continuing to provide support.
